We’re three weeks into the new year and already Croton Falls firefighters have responded to almost ten car accidents in town. The accidents have been on local roads and Interstate 684, and while they occurred for a variety of reasons the common theme is most of them were avoidable. The Department encourages all drivers to slow down, avoid drinking and driving, adjust for weather/road conditions and avoid distracted driving. For more information on driving safely and avoiding risky driving, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s web page.

The most recent accident had firefighters dispatched at 00:43 hours on Saturday, January 20th to Grant Road just north of the intersection with Hawley and June Roads. A Mini Cooper with one occupant was heading south on Grant Road when it went off the roadway and overturned. Firefighters and Troopers secured the scene while a Westchester EMS paramedic evaluated the driver and Bryson’s Towing removed the car.
