Water Operations Drill
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Asst. Chief Jeffery Daday
July 7, 2020

This week's Monday training was water operations, which is an essential element of firefighting when fire hydrants aren't available (which is the case in our fire district and most of northern Westchester and Putnam counties).

In our training scenario, Engine 148 was the source engine and drafted water from a branch of the Croton River to fill Tanker 8 and Tanker 88. Both tankers then transported water to the simulated fire scene and filled port-a-ponds, which are temporary reservoirs for water. Engine 149 drafted water from the port-a-ponds and supplied water to Ladder 67, which finished the cycle by flowing its aerial master stream so water returned to the same river Engine 148 drafted from to start the evolution.
