The cold weather made for a busy weekend as Croton Falls Fire responded to 22 alarms, including mutual aid requests to South Salem, Brewster, and Carmel. On Friday, Car 2071, E149, MA17, and U64 were requested for structural protection as a brush fire was rapidly approaching a house on Mead Street in South Salem. Units provided fire suppression and overhaul for over an hour. A few hours later, units were dispatched to a reported generator fire next to a structure, which turned out to be a generator fire with extension to a 50’ x 50‘ area of brush. E148 arrived first due and stretched while T8 supplied water. Shortly after, units responded to three additional electrical hazards in district, and concluded the night with a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Interstate 684. Early Saturday morning, Croton Falls was dispatched to Brewster for an inside smoke odor. After clearing, members responded to numerous calls throughout the day, including several reported fires in district. On Sunday morning, members were dispatched to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for a water condition and odor of gas. A sprinkler head was found to be tripped causing a significant amount of water flowing in multiple areas. Firefighters assisted with isolating the sprinkler system and determined no hazard from the gas odor. Cars 2071, 2072, 2073, E148, E149, T8, T88, R28, U28, U48, and U64 operated throughout the 22 incidents.
