On the evening of Saturday, October 29, 2016 the Croton Falls Fire Department was requested with the Ladder and Tanker mutual aid to a Chapel Court residence in the South Salem Fire District for a reported chimney fire.

South Salem Second Assistant Chief Mike DeVito (Car 2453) was first to arrive on scene and confirmed an active chimney fire. After further investigation Car 2453 confirmed a working structure fire and transmitted the 10-75 first alarm assignment.

Croton Falls firefighters arrived on scene shortly after and were assigned to ladder the roof and extinguish the chimney portion of the fire. After some crafty driving Ladder 67 was able to get in the narrow driveway and take position in front of the structure so the aerial could reach the chimney.

Crews then made their way up the ladder to extinguish the active fire on the chimney. Once the fire was knocked down crews proceeded to cut away the charred wood that surrounded the chimney.
