A ringing cell phone distracted a driver this afternoon leading to a one-car accident on Peach Lake Road north of Dingle Ridge Road.

At 15:30 hours on November 23rd the Croton Falls Fire Department and EMS units were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a utility pole. A North Salem police officer was on scene quickly followed by a NSVAC member and Assistant Chief Dan Dreyer. The sole occupant of an SUV told the North Salem police officer she took her eyes off the road to look at her ringing cell phone, which caused her to drift off the road and strike a utility pole. The pole was sheared at the base, which caused a brief power outage in the area and led to the closure of one lane on Route 121 while NYSEG crews removed the damaged pole.

NSVAC transported the driver to Danbury Hospital while firefighters provided traffic control as a NYSEG crew tended to the downed utility pole.
