At 08:02 hours on Tuesday, January 17th the Croton Falls Fire Department was dispatched for an engine to set up a helicopter landing zone near Route 22 and Dean's Corner Road as the Brewster Fire Department was operating at a serious two-vehicle crash. Shortly after the initial dispatch, the request was upgraded for Rescue 28 to respond to the scene to help extricate the driver of one vehicle who was heavily entrapped in his pick-up truck.

While Putnam sheriffs, New York state troopers and North Salem police officers closed Route 22 to traffic in both directions, Brewster and Croton Falls firefighters worked for 40 minutes to extricate the driver. During the extrication the driver was attended to by EMS personnel from the Brewster Fire Department, Putnam medics and the flight crew of the medivac chopper. He was transported to the Westchester Medical Center for treatment while the two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.

During this incident, Croton Falls firefighters also responded to a minor two-vehicle accident on I-684 underneath the Hardscrabble Road overpass that required the transport of one patient to Putnam Hospital by the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
