On Tuesday, Croton Falls Fire was dispatched to multiple motor vehicle accidents due to poor road conditions. At 11:02 hours, Croton Falls with NSVAC responded to Hardscrabble road for a motor vehicle accident with injuries. The driver lost control and struck a tree. Luckily, the driver suffered minor injuries.
At 15:13 hours, Croton Falls with NSVAC was dispatched to Interstate 684 Southbound for a reported tractor trailer off the road into a body of water. While en route, Car 2071 requested Yorktown Heights Dive Team on standby. Car 2073 arrived on scene with a tractor trailer down an embankment. Rescue 28 with 2072 arrived and began assessing the engine compartment and ruptured gas tank on the tractor trailer, while NSVAC provided patient care. Car 2073 notified the Department of Environmental Conservation for the gas leak, which was self-contained. Ladder 67 and Utility 28 provided assistance with blocking the right lane of traffic and fireground operations. Units operated on the Interstate for about an hour before returning in service. While operating, many drivers did not use caution while passing our apparatus at the scene, resulting in several close-calls.
Over the course of the day, there were several other motor vehicle accidents in the Croton Falls Fire District. Luckily, all but two accidents resulted in negative injuries. Please utilize extreme caution when driving in treacherous road conditions and slow down when approaching the scene of an emergency.
